Predators of Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park, while not as renowned for its predators as some of Tanzania’s larger parks, offers a fascinating glimpse into the behavior of Africa’s carnivores in a more intimate and diverse environment. The park’s varied ecosystems—ranging from montane forests to open savannas—support a variety of predator species, though the densities are lower compared to places like the Serengeti.

The park is home to several key predator species, including lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas. However, sightings of these predators can be less predictable, as they tend to be more elusive, often dwelling in the park’s dense forests or higher altitudes, where they are harder to spot. Here, it’s not unusual to see lions in the open plains, leopards lurking in the trees, or spotted hyenas scavenging along the edges of the forest.
